Australia is home to some of world’s best universities and schools. No wonder Australia has become a top choice for students from all over the world. This has led to high demand by the international students to study in Australia and hence Australian Education industry has seen a significant growth in last 15 to 20 years. According to a report published by Austrade, a study conducted by Deloitte has concluded that Australia’s onshore international education sector is forecast to grow from 650,000 enrolments today to 940,000 by 2025 (which equates to a compounding annual growth rate of 3.8 per cent).

Australian Government Department of Immigration and Border Protection is constantly working to refine its current visa categories to make it simple for people to apply visas. International students currently have two visa options:

Student Visa (Subclass 500)

International Students who wish to study full time in Australia can apply for this visa.  To be eligible to apply for this visa one must be at least six years of age, have a health insurance and have been accepted to study in one of the registered educational institution in Australia. The applicant must satisfy genuine intention to stay in Australia temporarily and might also need to provide evidence of English language skills and financial capacity. This Visa lets the holder to stay and enter Australia for the duration of the course, work for restricted hours per week and allows eligible family members to accompany to Australia.

Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590)

This Visa allows the holder to stay in Australia as a guardian of international student younger than 18 years of age studying in Australia on student visa. To be eligible for this visa one must be student’s parent, legal guardian or a relative and have enough money genuinely available to support both the student and guardian. The guardian must be of at least 21 years of age.
